With Spring in full bloom, it’s time to bring out those lovely skirts that have thus far been hiding at the back of your wardrobe. Not all styles are in right now though!
To keep you looking fabulous, we’ve researched for you: the basics of what trends to work and which ones to avoid for Spring/Summer 2012.
Length: This season is all about extremes- either super short or super long. Knee lengths still prevail but the calf-length midi skirts we wore through 2011 are most certainly out!
Fit: Pleats and the full 50s style skirts are most certainly out. Thank Floyd (or Chanel, in this case, who featured it in their show) as it didn’t flatter everybody. The emphasis is going to be on sleek, tight fitting skirts
Prints: In a classic fashion cliché, florals are in this spring. However, not all kinds of prints are trendy. Digital-looking and painterly floral prints are out while natural-flower-like florals, appliqué flowers and ruffles are in!
- Jackets: Elegant, tailored-two pieces are going strong this season. Colour-blocking is really in too, but that’s a whole other post!
- Shoes: Wear your slinky skirts with pretty flats for everyday or spiky stilettos if you feel up to it.
- Jewellery: Gold is really hot right now, while silver is out. Accessorize with gold or gold-colour jewellery, preferably in 70s styles. Your mom is going to be surprised and happy.
As a totally general tip from those who’ve been there: Whatever you do, a short flowing skirt on a windy day is never a wise idea. Never. (*wags finger*)
