In English class, we were always taught to answer the 5 W’s of any good writing – who, what, when, where and why. So it seems only fair that I should debut my column by doing the same…. happy reading!
Who: The fun and fabulous Samvitha Ram. Just kidding! The ‘who’ of this column, I would say, is who this is targeted towards – young, ambitious, inspired women… and maybe the not-so-inspired, but equally amazing ones as well.
What: 21 C.G. – you’re probably already dying of curiosity. What does it stand for? If you think about the ‘Who’, it seems to be a pretty obvious answer – 21st Century Girl.
Okay, not the Willow Smith version (though I have to admit, she did a pretty great job of describing the term). I think the column is just a means for all of us 21CG’s out there to bond over our shared vision and ideas for, as my dad likes to put it, “the Connected age”.
When: When does this column come out? Every chance I get to write about these common situations and ‘growing-up’ themes we all face, and my own thoughts on them (feel free to disagree at any time!).
Where: This is the easiest one – right here, on That’s So Gloss. But, I welcome the chance to interact with some of you amazing readers and young women out there – so feel free to reach me at my email address, firstname.lastname@example.org at any time, and just let me know what you think.
Why: A tricky question, I suppose, and usually the one that we all groan and mumble about in English class as well. To me, 21CG is a means to answer the bigger questions of the ‘Girl Kingdom’ – How do we live our lives? What's with the double and more layers of meaning in the words we use? And of course, why is it these feet-torturing heels never go out of style?
In all seriousness, the answer to these questions might be something we never figure out, but along the way, I promise to use plenty of quotes and pop-song references, to keep the journey entertaining.
